You’ve probably clicked on a “what I eat in a day” video at some point. Maybe hoping it would give you inspiration, or motivation. Some kind of clue about what eating normally or “healthy” is supposed to look like.

And maybe, like a lot of women I talk to, you closed it feeling worse than when you opened it.

That’s not abnormal. Most of those videos show you the what and skip the part that actually matters: the why. What’s going on inside the person’s head when they make a food decision. What they’re listening to. What they’re not listening to anymore.

That’s what this episode is. I’m taking you into my brain — not to give you a meal plan, not to show you the “right” way to eat, but to let you see what it actually feels like on the other side. What food freedom looks like on a regular, unsexy basis.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • Why “what I eat in a day” content can do more harm than good — and what to pay attention to instead
  • How the exact same food choice can come from two completely different places (one keeps you stuck, one sets you free)
  • Why eating the same breakfast every morning can be self-love or a symptom of fear — and how to tell the difference from the inside
  • What it looks like when your body and your brain finally start working together instead of against each other
  • Why body literacy is a skill — not a personality trait you either have or don’t
  • The reason so many women stay stuck even after doing “all the right things”
  • What it feels like when food decisions stop requiring so much mental energy — and what you get to do with all that space

The Question That Will Change Everything For You

It’s not: is this healthy?

It’s not: how many calories is this?

It’s: where is this decision coming from?

That one question changed everything for me. Because the food itself matters so much less than the place it’s coming from.

Here’s an example. I eat the same breakfast almost every weekday: oatmeal, protein powder, banana, peanut butter. Very boring. Very consistent. And years ago, I also ate the same breakfast every day. But back then? It was because I knew exactly what was in it and I was terrified to deviate. Any change to the plan sent me into a quiet panic.

Same breakfast. Completely different relationship to it.

Now I eat it because I genuinely don’t care about breakfast variety, I have a business to run, and decision fatigue is real. That’s not restriction. That’s just knowing myself. And that distinction — from fear-based choosing to self-led choosing — is the whole point of this episode.

What My Relationship With Food Actually Looks Like Now

There’s no tracking. No rules. No list of foods I’m not allowed to have. And also — I want to say this clearly — no chaos. It’s not a “free for all”.

I eat several times throughout the day because that’s what my body asks for. I try to get protein in most meals because I’ve learned that keeps me feeling steady. I usually skip the fried stuff at certain restaurants — not because it’s bad, but because I know my stomach, and I’d rather be present at dinner than uncomfortable for the rest of the night.

And sometimes I have the burger. Because it sounds amazing and I want it.

None of these are rules. They’re just things I know about myself — things I learned by actually paying attention over time, instead of outsourcing my decisions to a meal plan.

Oh, and jam is back in my life. I used to not eat jelly because of some rule I’d absorbed somewhere along the way. Now I have peanut butter and jelly toast on weekends and it is objectively one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. That’s what healing gives back to you — things you didn’t even realize you’d lost.

Why “Just Listen to Your Body” Is Incomplete Advice

I’m going to say something that might feel a little uncomfortable: you cannot access your body’s signals when diet culture noise is louder than your own hunger.

Your body has been trying to communicate with you. It really has. But after years of overriding those signals with rules, calorie counts, and external plans — learning to actually hear them again is a skill. It takes practice. It takes the right tools. And it does not come from listening to one more podcast about intuitive eating (I say this with full awareness that this is a podcast about intuitive eating).

I talk to women all the time who have spent months — sometimes years — consuming content about healing their relationship with food. Following the accounts, reading the books, genuinely wanting it. And still feeling stuck.

Not because they weren’t trying. Because the knowledge stayed in their heads and never made it into their bodies.

Learning to trust your body is like learning to drive. Reading about driving does not make you a good driver. At some point, you have to get in the car.

The Real Goal: Becoming an Expert on You

Not on my body. Yours.

What I eat, when I eat, how much I eat — that’s not the takeaway here. The takeaway is that you can get to a place where you know yourself this well. Where you can sit down at a restaurant and just… order what sounds good. Where a snack is a snack and not a moral decision. Where you eat lunch and then think about something else.

That’s what food freedom actually is. Not perfection. Not willpower. Just a relationship with your body where you trust what it’s telling you — and you have enough self-knowledge to actually respond.
